Do you really know how to choose a pair of glasses frames? —— Seven-step method for selecting glasses frames

From childhood to adulthood, you have worn so many pairs of glasses. Would you choose the frame? Do you know what each number on the frame represents? When choosing a frame, was it only for the sake of looking good? Then you might not have truly been able to see clearly through the frame.
Choose the right shoes, otherwise your feet will get cramped and hurt. The same goes for glasses and eyes. So, what aspects should we look at when choosing a suitable frame for glasses? Today, let's first learn about the first three steps - the three dimensions of the frame.
The frame size is usually indicated on the frame legs. If the frame legs do not have the size marked, then the quality and comfort of this frame are like opening a mystery box.
The three parameters of the frame size - 48-23-139 - respectively represent the diameter of the frame 48mm, the width of the bridge 23mm, and the length of the leg 139mm.
When determining the frame size, it is also necessary to know your eye's interpupillary distance (PD). Generally, optometrists will use pen lights, pupillometer devices, or other related equipment to check this.
01
Check the rim size
For a suitable frame, the basic criterion is that the rim size + bridge size of the frame should be ≤ the pupillary distance + 7. This can help maintain a good optical visual effect of the glasses and relatively uniform lens thickness.
For example, if your pupillary distance is 60mm, then the rim size + bridge size of the frame you choose should preferably be ≤ 67mm.
Frames that exceed this standard may have problems such as excessive thickness of the temporal lens, decreased clarity, the need to re-center the lenses, or a decline in the comfort of functional lenses.
02
Check the leg length
The leg length is a very important parameter when choosing glasses but is often overlooked. Understanding it can greatly enhance the wearing comfort. The leg length refers to the straight-line distance from the center of the hinge screw to the end of the leg. The third number in the frame size is the leg length.
Should the leg length be longer or shorter? The answer is neither.
If the leg length is too short, it may cause: ① Pain in the ears ② The wearing position is not fixed, affecting the wearing effect of functional lenses ③ Excessive inclination angle, resulting in poor vision and discomfort during wearing
Of course, the leg length cannot be too long either. If it is too long, it may cause: ① The frame will slide down on the face ② If the position where the eyes see through the lenses is not optimal, it will lead to reduced vision or fluctuations
The appropriate leg length is when the bend point of the leg coincides with the ear point. This way, the ears will not be painful, the wearing is comfortable and pleasant.
So, after choosing the frame, you must also check it from the side. The leg length should not be too short. It is best that the bend point of the leg is above the ear. For example, if the 142mm leg length is too short, you can try a frame with a leg length of 145mm or 147mm.

Check the nose bridge size
For friends with relatively wide eye spacing, choosing a nose bridge size that is larger, such as 19mm or 20mm (based on the overall size of the face), can to some extent reduce the eye spacing, resulting in a "narrower" face and achieving the visual effect of the three-part face and five eyes.
